KRAZY ABOUT KOKANEE

Bringing in a few hundred a season (yes, you read right), our neighbor is ridiculously, crazed about catching kokanee.  He knows how, when, and where to find them.  In good weather and in bad, and in multiple lakes.  With the highest respect, and rightfully so, my husband and I have nicknamed him "Kokanee Killer".

What is a kokanee?  A kokanee is the land-locked subspecies of a sockeye salmon and spends its entire life in fresh water.  They are delicious!

Here are pictures from a couple of trips my husband and I took with Mr. and Mrs. Kokanee Killer earlier this season at Oregon's high lakes.  Going with these two, we know that we will always have some fresh fish for dinner and some extra to put in the freezer!

A normal daily harvest!
